Lieutenant Colonel Michael Roach, a native of Brooklyn, NY was commissioned in May 1996. After the Basic School and Artillery Officer Basic Course, he reported to India Battery, 3/11 where he served as a Forward Observer, Plt Cdr, and XO. During this period he supported Exercise Native Fury in Kuwait and completed a UDP to Okinawa.
Lieutenant Colonel Roach reported to 13th MEU in 1999 where he completed two deployments as the Target Information Officer and Assistant Operations Officer, respectively. During this period he participated in Operation Enduring Freedom in Southwest Asia and in support of Operation Anaconda in Afghanistan.
Lieutenant Colonel Roach attended the Field Artillery Advance Course and after graduation he reported to 11th Marine Regiment in Feb 2003. He participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom I and assumed command of Battery F, 2nd Battalion, 11th Marines in Iraq. In Dec 2003 Battery F deployed with BLT 2/3 in support of a 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit deployment. After he relinquished command of Battery F in July 2004 Lieutenant Colonel Roach returned to Ramadi, Iraq as an advisor to Iraqi Security Forces for Operation Iraqi Freedom II from 2004-2005.
Lieutenant Colonel Roach served as the Inspector Instructor for Headquarters Battery, 2nd Battalion, 14th Marines, in Grand Prairie, Texas from 2005-2008. He participated in Humanitarian Relief Operations in Mississippi and Louisiana in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
Lieutenant Colonel Roach attended the US Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth from 2008-2009. After school he was assigned to US Central Command from 2009-2012. During this period he served as an operational planner and as the Aide-de-Camp to the Deputy Commander.
Lieutenant Colonel Roach's personal awards include the Bronze Star, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with 2 gold stars, Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tulane University and a Master of Science Degree from Kansas State University.
