Colonel Peter B. Eltringham
12th Marine Littoral Regiment

A native of Providence, Rhode Island, Colonel Eltringham graduated from Penn State University and commissioned in 2000. He commanded at each level from platoon to battalion - including Artillery Instructor Battery, TBS, Headquarters Battery, 3rd Battalion, 11th Marines, Security Force Assistance Police Advisor Team Delta (Kajaki, Afghanistan), Headquarters Battery, 11th Marines and 5th Battalion, 11th Marines (HIMARS).

 

Colonel Eltringham has multiple combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, serving as an artillery battery Executive Officer (Fox Battery, 2d Battalion, 11th Marines, Regimental Combat Team 5, OPERATION Iraqi Freedom I), security force assistance advisor to the Iraqi 27th Infantry Brigade, Al Anbar Province, Iraq and Afghan Local Police Force, Helmand Province, Afghanistan. Colonel Eltringham deployed with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, Okinawa, Japan, served as a staff platoon commander and instructor at The Basic School in Quantico, Virginia, served in artillery battalion Operations and Executive Officer billets, as a Joint Operations Planner and West Africa Branch Chief, USAFRICOM and Marine Aide to the Secretary of the Navy, Washington, D.C.

 

Colonel Eltringham's formal military education includes U.S. Marine Corps Expeditionary Warfare School and Command and Staff College. He also holds multiple advanced degrees including Masters in International Security Studies, Sub-Saharan Africa focus (Naval Postgraduate School, Monterrey, California) and Masters in National Security and Resource Strategy (Eisenhower School, National Defense University, Washington, D.C.).

 

Colonel Eltringham selected for O6 (Colonel) on the FY23 board and was frocked on 1 June 2022 to serve as the Future Operations Division Chief, J35, USAFRICOM. In August 2022, Colonel Eltringham was selected for and reassigned to serve as the Executive Officer to the Commander, USAFRICOM, General Michael Langley, USMC. Colonel Eltringham officially promoted to Colonel on 1 October 2022.


He was selected for O6 Command in summer 2022 and transferred to Okinawa Japan in June 2023. Colonel Eltringham assumed Command of 12th Marine Littoral Regiment in July 2023, where he presently serves.

 

His personal awards include (1) Defense Superior Service Medal, (1) Bronze Star, (3) Meritorious Service Medals, (4) Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
