Lieutenant Colonel Nathaniel R. Jones
Jungle Warfare Training Center

Nathaniel Jones is from El Paso, Texas.  He attended grade school in the area until attending college at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, New Mexico in 2001.  He completed Officer Candidate School over the summer in 2005 and graduated school in December 2006 with a major in government and minor in philosophy.

Lieutenant Jones commissioned in January 2007 and attended The Basic School in June 2007, graduated in December 2007, and attended Infantry Officer Course in January 2008.  Lieutenant Jones graduated Infantry Officer Course in April 2008 and received orders to 3rd Battalion 5th Marines where he deployed on the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit as a rifle platoon commander in January 2009.  Lieutenant Jones then deployed with the battalion to Sangin, Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom from September 2010 to April 2011.

After his return from Afghanistan, Captain Jones received orders to Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina.  Captain Jones served as a series commander and company commander in 1st Recruit Training Battalion from July 2011 to April 2014.

Captain Jones received orders to 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance battalion and remained with them from 2014 to 2016.  He served as Alpha Company Commander and deployed with Battalion Landing Team 2/1 on the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit from February 2016 to September 2016.

In January 2017, Captain Jones reported to Marine Corps Tactics and Operations Group in 29 Palms California.  Major Jones served as an Operations and Tactics Instructor there from 2017 to 2020.  While there, he also became a Weapons and Tactics Instructor and was the lead Kriegssiel instructor and lead Advanced Maneuver Warfare Course instructor.

Major Jones then received orders to 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion and served as their operations officer from July 2020 to July 2021.  Major Jones received orders to School of Infantry West and served in Advanced Infantry Training Battalion as the company commander of Light Armored Reconnaissance Training Company.  He served in this billet until July 2022 after he was selected for the rank of lieutenant colonel and received orders to Jungle Warfare Training Center in Okinawa Japan.
