Sergeant Major John B. Noel Sergeant Major 3d Battalion, 3d Marines

Sergeant Major Noel joined the Marine Corps in October 1994 and attended recruit training Parris Island, South Carolina.  Upon graduation, he reported Courthouse Bay, North Carolina where he attended Combat Engineer Training School.

In March 1995, Private Noel reported to Marine Wing Support Squadron (MWSS) 172, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing in Okinawa, Japan during March 1995 where he served as a Combat Engineer. While stationed with MWSS-172, Private Noel was deployed to South Korea for exercises FREEDOM BANNER and DRAGON SLAYER.  He was promoted to Lance Corporal November 1995. Lance Corporal Noel then received orders to Charlie Company, 7th Engineer Support Battalion, 1st FSSG, at Camp Pendleton, California during March 1996 where he served as a Fire team leader.  He was promoted to Corporal November 1997 and served as a Squad leader 1st platoon, He attended Winter Mountain Leaders course at Bridgeport, California and He was promoted to Sergeant on December 1st, 1998.

Sergeant Noel was transferred to Okinawa, Japan 9th Engineer Support Battalion, Alpha Company 3rd FSSG in March 1999. He attended Sergeant’s Course at the Staff Noncommissioned Officer Academy in Okinawa and graduated in June of 1999. He deployed to Australia for CROCODILE 1999 with COMBINE JOINT TASK FORCE.

Sergeant Noel received orders to Camp Pendleton, California 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division. Where he served as Training NCO for Combat Engineer Battalion and was promoted to Staff Sergeant November 2002 and served as Platoon guide for 1st platoon Charlie Company.  Staff Sergeant Noel was deployed to Iraq for Iraqi Freedom in February of 2003. Staff Sergeant Noel requested and received orders to MCRD San Diego for duty as a Drill Instructor.  He was assigned to Hotel Company, 2nd RTR Bn where he completed four cycles as a Drill Instructor and was transferred to Company F where he completed four cycles as a Senior Drill Instructor.  He was then assigned as Senior Drill and Chief Drill Instructor for Special Training Company.

Staff Sergeant Noel was selected to Gunnery Sergeant and was transferred to Camp Pendleton, California, 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, and 1st Marine Division for a second tour and was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in January 2007.  He served as Platoon Sergeant with Bravo Company from 2007 to 2009 and deployed with 2nd Battalion, Fifth Marines and Third battalion, Seventh Marines in Iraq for Operation,Iraqi Freedom. In October 2009, Gunnery Sergeant Noel reported to the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center, Bridgeport, California where he served as SNCOIC of Facilities Maintenance.  First Sergeant Noel assumed command June 17, 2010 as the First Sergeant for Inspector-Instructor, Anti-Terrorism Battalion Reno, Nevada. He was then transferred to First Battalion Eleven Marines for duty on August 10, 2013, where was assigned to Bravo Battery. On February 6, 2015 First Sergeant assumed duty as Headquarters Battery, Eleven Marines battery First Sergeant. SgtMaj Noel was promoted and transferred from Headquarters Eleven Marines in Feb of 2017 and is currently serving as the Battalion SgtMaj for V33.

Sergeant Major Noel’s awards include: Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (fourth award), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (second award), Good Conduct Medal(seven award), National Defense Service Medal(second award), Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation-Navy, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (fourth award) and Marine Corps Drill Instructor Ribbon.
