Sergeant Major Misenhimer enlisted in the Marine Corps on 9 December 1996, and attended recruit training at MCRD San Diego, Ca. Upon completion of recruit training, he was directed to the Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry. At completion, he was assigned the MOS of 0311 Infantry Rifleman and received orders to 1st Bn, 7th Marines.
Private Misenhimer was assigned to 1st Platoon, Company C, where he served as a Rifleman and Automatic Rifleman. During his tour with V17, he participated in numerous field exercises along with the Unit Deployment Program, deploying in support of the 31st MEU to Okinawa, Japan. In March of 1999, he was promoted to Corporal followed by orders to Marine Security Guard School in May of 1999.
Upon completion of MSG School in July of 1999, Corporal Misenhimer received orders to the American Embassy Nairobi, Kenya to serve as a Watch Stander and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in May of 2000. In October of 2000, Sergeant Misenhimer was redirected to the American Embassy Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina. In March of 2002 in concert with the stop move, stop loss initiative, Sergeant Misenhimer was transferred to The American Embassy Tokyo, Japan. He was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in July of 2002. In December of 2003, Staff Sergeant Misenhimer received orders to 2d Bn, 1st Marines.
While assigned to V21, he was assigned to Company G where he served with 1st, 2d, and Weapons Platoons. During this tour, he participated in two deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. While deployed with the 13th MEU, Staff Sergeant Misenhimer was recognized with a Combat Meritorious promotion to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant in January 2006. In July of 2006, He received orders to the Marine Combat Instructor Course.
After graduating MCIC, Gunnery Sergeant Misenhimer was assigned as the Chief Instructor of Infantry Squad leaders Course. In September of 2007, he was reassigned as the Chief Instructor of Infantry Machine Gun Leaders Course. In July of 2009, Gunnery Sergeant Misenhimer was re-assigned to 3d Bn, 3d Marines.
While assigned to V33, Gunnery Sergeant Misenhimer held the Billets of Operations Chief and Company K Company Gunnery Sergeant. In December of 2009, he was selected for promotion to First Sergeant and received frocking orders followed by assignment to Company L where he deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Upon return from deployment, He was reassigned to Headquarters and Service Company deploying once again.
In July of 2012, First Sergeant Misenhimer received orders to 2d Maintenance Battalion where he was assigned to Ordnance Maintenance Company. In November of 2013, he was reassigned to Headquarters and Service Company. First Sergeant Misenhimer was selected for Sergeant Major November 2014 and was frocked in February of 2015 in concert with reassignment to 3d Reconnaissance Battalion.
Sergeant Major Misenhimer’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with 1 gold star, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device and 2 gold stars, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device and 1 gold star, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
