Commanding Officer 4th Marine Regiment

Colonel Kevin A. Norton

Colonel Kevin A. Norton enlisted in the Marine Corps in January 1990. His first assignment was as an artilleryman in C Battery, 1st Battalion, 12th Marines (Kaneohe Bay, HI). During this initial tour, he participated in combat operations in OPERATION DESERT SHIELD/DESERT STORM. In 1992, he deployed to Okinawa and the Philippines as part of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit.

In December 1993, he was commissioned as a 2ndLt via the Enlisted Commissioning Program. Following initial training at The Basic School and Infantry Officer Course, he served as a Rifle Platoon Commander, Heavy Machine Gun Platoon Commander and Weapons Company Executive Officer in 2d Battalion, 6th Marines (Camp Lejeune, NC) from 1994 to 1996. During this period, he participated in operations with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit in support of OPERATION JOINT ENDEAVOR. Following his initial tour, he served as a Rifle Platoon Commander in Ground Security Defense Forces, Marine Barracks, Guantanamo Bay Cuba from 1997 to 1998. In 1998 to 2000, he served as the Officer Selection Officer in Recruiting Station Salt Lake City, UT.

From 2001 to 2004, he served in 3d Battalion, 4th Marines (Twentynine Palms, CA) as the Commanding Officer Headquarters and Service Company, Commanding Officer K Company and Battalion Operations Officer. During this tour, he participated in a unit deployment to Okinawa and combat operations in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM I and II.

In 2005, Colonel Norton returned to Recruiting duty where he served as Commanding Officer Recruiting Station New Jersey until 2007. In 2007, he reported back to 3d Battalion, 4th Marines (Twentynine Palms, CA) and served as the Battalion Executive Officer. During this tour, he participated in support of combat operations in OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM 08-1. In 2009, Colonel Norton reported to United States Strategic Command in Omaha, NE where he served as a strategic planner in J5 Plans and Policy Directorate until 2011.

In 2011, Colonel Norton assumed command of 1st Battalion, 4th Marines (Camp Pendleton, CA) and led Battalion Landing Team 1/4 on a Pacific Deployment as the ground combat element supporting the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (Okinawa). During this tour, BLT 1/4 participated in Exercises Cobra Gold (Thailand), Balikatan (Philippines)and SSang Yong (Republic of Korea). Following the Change of Command in September 2012, he served as Deputy Team Chief, Corps Advisor Team, Afghan National Army, 215th Corps, OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM, Helmand Province, Afghanistan. Upon returning to Camp Pendleton in January 2014, he served as the Officer in Charge, 1st Marine Regiment until June 2014.

June 2014 to June 2015 he served as a Secretary of Defense Corporate Fellow with General Dynamics Mission Systems in Scottsdale, AZ. In July 2015, he served as the Inspector General, MCRD/WRR San Diego, CA. Colonel Norton assumed command of 4th Marine Regiment on 16 June 2016.

Colonel Norton is a native of Wilkes-Barre, PA. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Union College (Lincoln, NE) where he majored in social science/secondary education.

He is a graduate of Infantry Captain's Career Course, Marine Corps Command and Staff College and served as a Secretary of Defense Corporate Fellow.
