Sergeant Major Rodney E. Nevinger
3d Marine Littoral Regiment

Sergeant Major Rodney E. Nevinger assumed the duties of 3d Marine Regiment Sergeant Major on July 30, 2021 and transitioned the regiment to 3d Marine Littoral Regiment on March 3, 2022 as part of Force Design 2030 initiatives.

A native of Kileen, TX, Sergeant Major Nevinger enlisted in the Marine Corps on April 4, 1998.
Sergeant Major Nevinger served with 1st Battalion, 1st Marines, and 2d Battalion, 1st Marines, where he held every billet in a Marine Corps infantry company from riflemen to company gunnery sergeant. Sergeant Major Nevinger deployed with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), 15th MEU, and 31st MEU in support of Operations ENDURING FREEDOM, IRAQI FREEDOM, and the Unit Deployment Program. Additionally, he served as a drill instructor at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego and as the Assistant Marine Officer Instructor at The Citadel.

Sergeant Major Nevinger promoted to the rank of First Sergeant on September 13, 2013. His assignments as a First Sergeant include 3d Law Enforcement Battalion, III Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF) Headquarters Group from 2013-2016; Headquarters Company First Sergeant and Battalion Sergeant Major 3d Marine Raider Battalion, Marine Raider Regiment from 2016-2018.
Sergeant Major Nevinger was frocked to Sergeant Major on March 28, 2018. His assignments include; Squadron Sergeant Major Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron, 2d Marine Aircraft Wing from 2018-2019; Squadron Sergeant Major Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 264 from 2019-2020; Squadron Sergeant Major Marine Wing Communications Squadron 28, Marine Aircraft Control Group 28, 2d Marine Aircraft Wing from 2020-2021.
Sergeant Major Nevinger is an honor graduate from Infantry Training Battalion, distinguished graduate of the Advanced Course, honor graduate of the Infantry Unit Leader Course, and a recipient of the Writer's Award from the United States Marine Corps Senior Enlisted Professional Military Education Course. Additionally, he is the 2011 Assistant Marine Officer Instructor of the Year for the Southwest Region and recipient of the 2016 III Marine Expeditionary Force Commanding General's Leadership Award.

Sergeant Major Nevinger’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with gold star in lieu of second award, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with gold star in lieu of second award, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with gold star in lieu of second award.
