3d Marine Division

Brigadier General Matthew T. Good is a native of Texas. Upon graduating from Texas A&M University with a degree in Animal Science, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in 1995.

Upon graduation from The Basic School and the Infantry Officer's Course, he was assigned to 1st Bn, 2nd Marines in Camp Lejeune, NC. During this tour, he held the billets of Platoon Commander, Rifle Company and Weapons Company Executive Officer, and Rifle Company Commander. His deployments during this tour included participation as LF6F in support of the 22d MEU, and a Unit Deployment Program to Okinawa, Japan.

In May 2000, Brigadier General Good was transferred to Weapons Company 1/23 in Austin, Texas where he served as Inspector-Instructor. Upon his completion of his tour with 1/23, Brigadier General Good attended Expeditionary Warfare School in Quantico, Virginia. Upon completion of Expeditionary Warfare School, Brigadier General Good reported to 3d Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion (LAR) aboard Marine Air Ground Combat Center, 29 Palms, CA where he served as Company Commander and Operations Officer from 2004 to 2007. While assigned to 3d LAR, he deployed to Iraq in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom 2-2 and 5-7.1.

Upon completion of his tour of duty with 3d LAR, Brigadier General Good was assigned to Tactical Training and Exercise Control Group (TTECG), where he served as Maneuver Coyote and Operations Officer from 2007 to 2009. Upon completion of his tour of duty with TTECG he attended Command and Staff College, in Quantico, VA. Following his graduation from Command and Staff College Brigadier General Good was assigned to the J5, Joint Task Force North where he served as Chief of Plans and Chief of Theatre Security Cooperation from 2010 to 2012.

Following his tour at Joint Task Force North, Brigadier General Good assumed command of 3d LAR in 2012, where he served as Battalion Commander until 2015.

After successfully completing his tour as Battalion Commander of 3d LAR, Brigadier General Good attended Marine Corps War College in Quantico VA. After a brief assignment to the faculty at Marine Corps Command and Staff College, he was assigned to serve as the Ground Colonel's Monitor, Officer Assignments MMOA, MM, M&RA, whereupon he was selected to command 7th Marine Regiment in 29 Palms, California.

After successfully commanding this regiment in 2021, Brigadier General Good was assigned as Director, Senate Liaison, Office of Legislative Affairs, HQMC.
