Sergeant Major Nathan Jacobson was born December 27th, 1978 in Camp Pendleton, California. He graduated high school from ASSETS School in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1996. In November of 1998 he graduated from recruit training in Parris Island, South Carolina. Private Jacobson reported to the School of Infantry in Camp Geiger, NC for Marine Combat Training (MCT) in November of 1998. Private Jacobson reported to Marine Corps Communications Electronics School in Twenty-nine Palms, California in January of 1999. Private First Class Jacobson graduated from Field Radio Operators Course in March of 1999 and was assigned to Battery S, 5th Battalion 11th Marines 1st Marine Division as a Field Radio Operator.
In January of 2000 Lance Corporal Jacobson deployed as a Fire Support Team Radio Operator assigned to Company B, Battalion Landing Team 1/4, 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit. In January of 2003 Sergeant Jacobson deployed as a Radio Operator assigned to Weapons Company, Battalion Landing Team 2/1, 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit where he participated in combat operations during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Upon his return to the United States Sergeant Jacobson voluntarily separated from active duty in August 2003 and studied general education at Cypress Community College.
In January 2005 Sergeant Jacobson returned to active duty and was assigned to 3rd Battalion 7th Marines first as a Radio Supervisor, then later as the Battalion Radio Chief. Sergeant Jacobson deployed to Ramadi, Iraq in September of 2005 and again in April of 2007. In December 2007 Staff Sergeant Jacobson reported to Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One as the Tactical Air Control Party Chief. In January of 2010 Staff Sergeant Jacobson graduated Tactical Air Control Party School at Expeditionary Warfare Training Group Atlantic at Little Creek, Virginia.
In June of 2011 Staff Sergeant Jacobson reported to 3rd Marine Raider Battalion where he was assigned to Marine Special Operations Team (MSOT) 8313 as the team Joint Tactical Air Controller (JTAC). Gunnery Sergeant Jacobson deployed with MSOT 8313 attached to Marine Special Operations Company (MCOC) H to Afghanistan in January 2012 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). In January of 2013, Gunnery Sergeant Jacobson reported to Firepower Control Platoon, Marine Special Operations Support Group where he served as a Radio Chief as well as a Special Operations Command JTAC Instructor. In October of 2013, Gunnery Sergeant Jacobson reported to MSOT 8234, MSOC H and deployed to Afghanistan in support of OEF. Upon returning from Afghanistan in June 2014, Gunnery Sergeant Jacobson returned to his previously held billet as Fires Platoon Radio Chief / JTAC Instructor.
In February of 2016 Gunnery Sergeant Jacobson reported to S-6 Platoon, Headquarters Company, Combat Logistics Regiment 1, 1st Marine Logistics Group as the Regimental Radio Chief. In January of 2017 First Sergeant Jacobson reported to 1st Battalion 11th Marines, 1st Marine Division to serve as the Battery B First Sergeant. In October of 2018 First Sergeant Jacobson reported to Headquarters Company, Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division as Company First Sergeant. In March of 2019 First Sergeant Jacobson reported to Headquarters Company, 5th Marine Regiment as the Company First Sergeant. In August of 2021 Sergeant Major Jacobson reported to Marine Combat Training Battalion, School of Infantry-West for duty as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader. In May of 2023 Sergeant Major Jacobson reported to his current post at 3rd Littoral Anti-Air Battalion, 3rd Marine Littoral Regiment, 3rd Marine Division.
His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with combat “V” for valor and four Gold Stars in lieu of fifth award, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with three Gold Stars in lieu of fourth award, and the Combat Action Ribbon with one Gold Star in lieu of second award.
