Brigadier General Matt T. Good is a native of Texas. Upon graduating from Texas A&M University, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in 1995.
Upon graduation from The Basic School and Infantry Officer's Course, he was assigned to 1st Bn, 2nd Marines in Camp Lejeune, NC. Here, he held the billets of Platoon Commander, Rifle Company and Weapons Company Executive Officer, and Rifle Company Commander. His deployments during this tour included participation as LF6F for the 22d MEU, and a Unit Deployment Program to Okinawa, Japan.
In 2000, Brigadier General Good transferred to Weapons Company 1/23 in Austin, Texas where he served as Inspector-Instructor. In 2003, Brigadier General Good attended Expeditionary Warfare School in Quantico, Va. Upon completion, Brigadier General Good reported to 3d Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion (LAR) aboard Marine Air Ground Combat Center, 29 Palms, CA where he served as Company Commander and Operations Officer from 2004 to 2007. At 3d LAR, he deployed to support Operations Iraqi Freedom 2-2 and 5-7.1.
Upon completion of his tour of duty with 3d LAR, Brigadier General Good was assigned to Tactical Training and Exercise Control Group (TTECG), where he served from 2007 to 2009. Upon completion of his tour of duty with TTECG he attended Command and Staff College, in Quantico, VA. Following graduation, Brigadier General Good was assigned to the J5, Joint Task Force North where he served as Chief of Plans and Chief of Theatre Security Cooperation from 2010 to 2012.
Following his tour at Joint Task Force North, Brigadier General Good assumed command of 3d LAR in 2012, where he served as Battalion Commander until 2015.
After completion of his Battalion Command tour, Brigadier General Good attended Marine Corps War College in Quantico, VA, after which he was assigned to the faculty at the Command and Staff College. In 2018, he served as the Ground Colonel's Monitor, Officer Assignments MMOA, MM, M&RA, whereupon he was selected to command 7th Marine Regiment in 29 Palms, California. In 2021, Brigadier General Good was assigned as Director, Senate Liaison, Office of Legislative Affairs, HQMC. In 2023, Brigadier General Good served as the Deputy Commander for Marine Forces Command in Norfolk, Virginia.
Brigadier General Good is currently assigned as the Assistant Division Commander, 3d Marine Division in Okinawa, Japan.
