Colonel Mastin M. Robeson
Headquarters Battalion

Colonel Mastin Robeson Jr is a native of the Carolinas. He graduated from the Citadel and was commissioned in 2003.

After the completion of The Basic School, Infantry Officers Course, and Light Armored Vehicle Leader’s Course, he joined 2d Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion where he served from 2004 until 2007. During this period he served in the billets of platoon commander, company executive officer, and company commander, deploying twice with the battalion to Al Anbar Province in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

In June 2007, he reported to The Basic School for instructor duty. In May 2008, he was assigned to the Infantry Officer Course, where he served as an instructor and class advisor. In August 2010, he reported to the Expeditionary Warfare School.

In February 2011, he reported to 3rd Battalion, 6th Marines where he commanded India Company during the battalion’s deployment to Marjah, Afghanistan. In 2012, he assumed the duties of Officer in Charge for an Afghan National Army battalion-level advisor team, deploying to Sangin and Kajaki Districts. Following his redeployment, in May 2013 he served as a future operations planner in the G-3, 2d Marine Division.

In June 2014, he assumed command of Recruiting Station Albany, New York where he served for three years. In July 2017, he attended and graduated from the Marine Corps Command and Staff College with a Masters in Military Studies.

Following graduation, he was assigned to 8th Marine Regiment in the role of regimental operations officer. In October 2019, he became the J3 for Task Force Southwest and deployed to Helmand Province, Afghanistan. In 2020, he assumed command of 1st Battalion, 6th Marines. After completing his command tour, he reported to the US Army War College, graduating with a Masters in Strategic Studies in 2023. Subsequently he was assigned to Joint Special Operations Command, serving in the J5.

Colonel Robeson's personal decorations include the Bronze Star with gold star, Purple Heart, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with gold star, Navy Commendation Medal with two gold stars, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with combat distinguishing device, and the Combat Action Ribbon with gold star.
