Sergeant Major Michael D. Martinet
3d Marine Division

Sergeant Major Martinet is a native of Pueblo, Colorado.  He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in July of 1997 and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD), San Diego, CA.  Upon completion, he was meritoriously promoted to Private First Class.  After graduating Marine Combat Training at School of Infantry West, Private First Class Martinet reported to Camp Johnson, NC, and attended the Basic Warehouse Course and obtained the Military Occupational Specialty of 3051.  Upon completion, he was meritoriously promoted to Lance Corporal.

Lance Corporal Martinet reported to Training Allowance Pool, 3rd Force Service Support Group, Camp Kinser, Okinawa, and was assigned as a warehouseman and assistant warehouse chief.  In May of that same year, he was promoted to the rank of Corporal. 

In June of 1999, Corporal Martinet reported to 2d Landing Support Battalion and served in an array of billets to include warehouseman, Consolidated Memorandum Report Chief, and Platoon Sergeant.  In August of 2000, he was meritoriously promoted to Sergeant. 

Sergeant Martinet reported to Drill Instructor School, MCRD, Parris Island, SC, in October of 2001.  While serving as a Drill Instructor, he served in various billets to include Drill Instructor, Experienced Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, and Battalion Drill Master for 3d Recruit Training Battalion.  He was meritoriously promoted to Staff Sergeant in March of 2004.

Upon completion of his tour at Parris Island, Staff Sergeant Martinet reported to 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, Camp Pendleton, CA.  During this tour, he deployed twice to Iraq in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM 4-6 and 6-8.  He was assigned as the Warehouse Chief, Admin Chief, and Supply Officer.  Staff Sergeant Martinet was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in February of 2008.

Gunnery Sergeant Martinet checked into the Staff Noncommissioned Officer Academy, Camp Pendleton, CA, in March of 2008 and served as a Faculty Advisor.  In April of 2009 Gunnery Sergeant Martinet assumed the billet of Staff Non-Commissioned Officer In-Charge (SNCOIC) for the Sergeants Course and in January of 2010, he assumed the billet of SNCOIC of the Career Course.  In January of 2011 he was frocked to First Sergeant.

First Sergeant Martinet was assigned as the Company First Sergeant for Company E, 2d Battalion, 4th Marines in January of 2011. Company E deployed to Shir Ghazay, Afghanistan, September 2011 through March 2012 in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. 

First Sergeant Martinet was transferred to Combat Instructor Company, The Basic School in October 2012.  First Sergeant Martinet was the first senior enlisted advisor implemented in the Basic Officer Course (BOC).  He was assigned as Company First Sergeant for Company B and C, BOC, The Basic School.

In October 2014, he reported to 1st Battalion, 12th Marines and was assigned to Battery A.  In March of 2015, First Sergeant Martinet was assigned to Headquarters Battery until June of 2015 when he assumed the post as the Battalion Sergeant Major. 

Sergeant Major Martinet was frocked to his current rank and reported to 3d Battalion, 3d Marines on 15 December 2015 for duty as the Battalion Sergeant Major and participated in the Unit Deployment Program from June 2016 through December 2016.  He reported for duty on 16 February 2017 to HMH 463 as the Squadron Sergeant Major.  

Sergeant Major Martinet reported to Command and Staff College, Marine Corps University in July 2018 and graduated in June of 2019. Sergeant Major Martinet reported to Combat Logistics Regiment 27 in October of 2019.

Sergeant Major Martinet reported to 3d Marine Division on 10 December, 2021 and currently serves as the Division Sergeant Major.

Sergeant Major Martinet's personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with two gold stars in lieu of third award, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with four gold stars in lieu of fifth award, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and the Combat Action Ribbon. He is authorized to wear the Enlisted Naval Aircrew Wings.  He holds a Master's Degree in Military Studies and a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management with a concentration of leadership.
