LtCol Goldberg is a native of New Jersey and was commissioned via the Platoon Leadership Class program in May 2001.  He holds a degree in Political Science from Villanova University near Philadelphia, PA.  LtCol Goldberg received the Marine Occupational Specialty of Ground Intelligence Officer in 2002 after completing the training pipeline in Quantico, VA.  

In March of 2003, LtCol Goldberg was assigned to 3rd Force Service Support Group G-2 in Okinawa, Japan, where he served as an Intelligence Operations Officer.  In August 2003, he filled an individual augment to Combined Joint Task Force-7 in Baghdad, Iraq, as part of a multi-discipline intelligence collection team. 

Upon check in to 1st Marine Division in June 2004, LtCol Goldberg was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines to serve as the Intelligence Officer and deployed to Fallujah, Iraq in August 2004. 

Upon return from deployment, LtCol Goldberg received orders to 1st Reconnaissance Battalion where he served as a Platoon Commander and deployed with 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) to Western Iraq. 

LtCol Goldberg attended resident Expeditionary Warfare School in 2008.  Upon graduation, he served as a Platoon Commander at Officer Candidate School in the summer of 2009.  LtCol Goldberg then reported to the Joint Special Operations Command in Fort Bragg, NC to serve in the J-2 directorate.  While at Fort Bragg, he was assigned temporary duty to multiple forward special operations task forces.

In June 2012, LtCol Goldberg reported to 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit to serve as the Intelligence Officer. He took part in a Western-Pacific deployment and multiple theater security cooperation exercises.

LtCol Goldberg attended resident Marine Corps Command and Staff College in 2015.  After graduation, he joined Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command where he served as the Intelligence Officer for Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force-Iraq in support of OPERATION INHERENT RESOLVE and as the G-2 Operations Officer.

In July 2019, LtCol Goldberg arrived at 3D Marine Division to serve as the G-3 Current Operations Officer.

LtCol Goldberg is a graduate of the Infantry Officers Course, Basic Reconnaissance Course, SERE, Marine Combatant Dive School, Airborne School, Multi-Mission Parachute Course, Weapons Tactics Instructor Course, Expeditionary Warfare School, and Command and Staff College.   

His personal decorations include the Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device, and Combat Action Ribbon.
