An Influence Around the World

During their deployment to Japan, Marines with Golf Company, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, stopped by Camp Fuji to hone their infantry skills. Marines recently conducted training in an environment some, much like Cpl. Steven Moody, have never operated in before.

Moody, an automatic rifleman, worked with his father as an electrician while he was in high school. He said he learned the importance of a hard work ethic and how to get a job done, so once he graduated from West Islip High School at the age of 17, he signed a contract to become a Marine.

“I liked what I saw,” said Moody. “The idea of shooting weapons and traveling to different countries for training was too enticing to pass up.”

Moody said his expectations to travel have been met since joining the Marine Corps. Although the training environment was new to Moody, he said his experience training in Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore is one he will never forget.

While he travels around the world for training, his father's life lessons are a piece of home that he carries around.

“My dad is very proud of me,” said Moody. “He taught me how to work hard and to stay focused and I do that every day."
