KIN, Okinawa, Japan -- KIN, Okinawa, Japan -- U.S. Marine Corps Capt. Matthew Dorton is appointed the commanding officer of Truck Company, Headquarters Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, during a change of command ceremony at Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, Oct. 25, 2019.
As part of the ceremony, U.S. Marine Corps Capt. Marie Banks, the outgoing company commander for Truck Company, was relieved by Dorton. While serving as company commander, Banks coordinated the unit’s different sections, each with varying missions and responsibilities, which contributed to the overall effectiveness and lethality of Headquarters Battalion and 3rd Marine Division.
“Leading this company has been an absolute honor and privilege,” said Banks. “It took me back to my motor transportation roots, which was where I started out. This company, under the direction of Headquarters Battalion, definitely takes the lead on relevant, realistic training to take us to the fight tonight.”
During the ceremony, the transfer of the company colors, symbolizing the transfer of responsibility and authority of Truck Company, was performed by the outgoing and oncoming commanders.
“I’m really looking forward to having new, young, fresh-faced Marines to mentor and develop,” said Dorton. “We’re going to have a lot going on. Plenty of missions and task, and for me, it’s all about the Marines under me.”
