Lt. Gen. John A. Toolan speaks to infantry officers about the capabilities of the ranges at the training facility Jan. 10 during exercise Lava Viper 15.1-2 on Hawaii, Hawaii. Toolan wanted to observe his Marines’ actions during the biannual training exercise that implements joint service capabilities to include the air-sea battle concepts. Toolan is the commander of Marine Forces Pacific. The officers are fire support officers with 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, currently assigned to 4th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, under the unit deployment program.
