Marines with 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment spent 5 months as a Forward Deployed Battalion in Okinawa, Japan, from March to August 2016. Three Marines from various companies within 2/2 give their take on their experience in Okinawa and other partner nations in the Pacific. While deployed as an FDB, the Marines with 2/2 were afforded the opportunity to work and train with six different partner nations.

RIMPAC 16: Artillery Raid by Helicopter
U.S. Marines conduct an artillery raid at Pohakuloa Training Area, Hawaii July 19 during Exercise Rim of the Pacific 2016 The raid utilized support from all elements of the Marine Air-Ground Task Force known as Provisional Marine Expeditionary Brigade-Hawaii. The helicopter was flown by Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 463 representing the aviation combat element. The M777 howitzer was hooked to the CH-53E by a Helicopter Support Team from Combat Logistics Battalion 3 representing the logistics combat element. The Marines from Battery A, 1st Battalion, 12th Marines fired the M777 howitzer. The command element provided support.
KMEP 16-11: Advancing as One
During Korea Marine Exchange Program 16-11, U.S. Marines carry out a bilateral regimental-sized Marine Air Ground Task Force operation for the first time July 6 at Suseong Range, South Korea. The KMEP series of exercises highlights the combined commitment to deterring external aggression and defending the Korean Peninsula.

Marines with 3rd Battalion, 12th Marine Regiment deploy to Ojojihara Maneuver Area in Sendai, Japan, to conduct Artillery Relocation Training Program 16-1. ARTP is a Japan-funded, routine training exercise that enables 3rd Battalion, 12th Marines, to maintain expeditionary readiness while also providing a means to interact with their local Japanese neighbors.
